Blackpool Transport will host an Accessible Open Day as part of Disabled Access Day on 16^th March at their Starr Gate Tram Depot.

Disabled Access Day is a national initiative which encourages disabled people and businesses to try something new in the spirit of cooperation, safety and fun.

The doors at Starr Gate tram depot will be open for all on Saturday 16^th March for a rare opportunity to see back of house areas and for visitors to board a bus and a tram in a safe, quiet environment.

The day aims to encourage those with any form of disability to talk to Disability Awareness trained transport staff and gain confidence that they are able to travel by bus or tram on the Fylde Coast.

We want people who are perhaps a little unsure or anxious about travelling by public transport to come along. We’ll have a bus and a tram safely parked up and visitors will be able to explore the accessible features at their own pace. All of our trams and buses are fully accessible and our team of over 600 staff have all received some form of disability awareness training, covering both physical and hidden disabilities to confidently meet the needs of all of our customers.

We’re delighted to have so many friendly and interesting venues taking part in Disabled Access Day this year. The variety of events is exceptional: we’ve got everything from multi-sensory storytelling and beach wheelchair try-outs, to virtual reality exploration, tactile exhibits and more. That there is strong support for Changing Places facilities at all venues is even more encouraging, and I look forward to reading about the experiences of all those taking part in Euan’s Guide reviews after the day.
