More bus services from Sunday 12th July and Blackpool Tramway set to reopen

Blackpool Tram at Starr Gate

Blackpool Transport have announced more bus journeys from 12th July and Blackpool Tramway will also reopen on Sunday 19th July.

From Sunday 12th July there will be an increase to all bus services across the Fylde Coast as lockdown restrictions ease and the number of people needing to make essential journeys increases.

Earlier and later buses as well as more frequent services will ensure that people can make their journeys in confidence and as safely as possible.

Blackpool Trams will begin running again from Sunday 19th July on a 20-minute frequency to support the town’s economy and provide an important service for commuters and visitors to the resort.

Three bus routes will also see small changes to their routes with Service 1 calling at Blackpool North Station before it continues along the promenade.

There are also changes to the current service 19 which will become a new service 20, calling at Blackpool North Station, Stanley Park and Blackpool Zoo before continuing its journey into Staining via Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Both of these route changes provide a direct link for visitors from Blackpool North Train Station to key attractions such as Blackpool Pleasure Beach & Blackpool Zoo, as well as all promenade hotels and attractions.

The service 7 will also begin and end in St Annes Square rather than Clifton Hospital, with workers and visitors to the hospital being able to use Service 17 as an alternative.

As the local transport operator we’re here to support the needs of our residents and visitors to our town. We’re further increasing services so that customers can travel safely with us and this is in addition to the range of safety measures we have already introduced. We’re delighted to announce the reopening of the tramway on the 19th July and we’ll be sharing more information about what customers can expect when travelling with us in the coming days. Our approach throughout this pandemic has been centred around customer needs and we’ll continue to provide enough buses and trams so that our customers and our staff can feel safe when travelling with us.

Jane Cole, Managing Director at Blackpool Transport

The increase to bus services comes into effect on Sunday 12th July and Blackpool Transport will continue to monitor customer numbers on a regular basis.
