The inaugural Blackpool Vegan and Green Festival takes place on Saturday March 10^th 2018 from 10am to 5pm at St. Thomas’ Church Parish Centre, just 10 minutes walk from Blackpool North train station. Paul from LT GOLD’s Kings Seafront Hotel and Faringo’s Vegan restaurant is one of the team behind this exciting new event to hit the resort and we recently caught up with him to get the inside scoop on what to expect.  

Of the 50 stalls on the day, around:

• 70% will be for Food Products – homemade burgers, sauces, cheeses, general artisan food
• 20% will be for General Products – clothes, jewellery, makeup
• 10% will be for Hot Food – burgers, pizzas, curry

100,000 leaflets have been distributed across Blackpool and Lytham and as far afield as Lancaster and Manchester to complement what is a relatively tight knit vegan community spreading the word online.

With a ticketed after party at Faringo’s Vegan located on South Promenade at Kings Hotel, even for the first event there are no half measures. Music comes from singer/songwriter Ian Bailey and band Mobius Loop, with the promise of entertainment from 8pm until late.

Despite the increasing visibility of vegan sections on menus at mainstream venues, Faringo’s can still claim that it is the only 100% vegan restaurant in Blackpool – and possibly Lancashire too. The proprietor claims that this unique position means “people can eat everything on the menu, instead of having to pick through it.”

Having said that, even many non-vegan Guests at Kings are embracing trying something new by dining in the hotel’s in-house restaurant in some cases “night after night.” Indeed, Paul himself has recently converted to veganism, claiming to feel “ten times better with much more energy.”

I’d advise anyone with any sort of illness – especially chronic – to try veganism because it’s actually proven to help people recover

Looking to the future, there’s the promise of an event to coincide with August’s Rebellion Festival and the Winter Gardens is being lined up to become host venue for the 2019 Blackpool Vegan and Green Festival. Expanding the festival lineup to other places is also on the cards, with Lancaster, Liverpool, Preston, Leeds and Birmingham all mooted as likely stop-offs. With that in mind, how about another five humdinger destinations to add to the expansion? Southport, Morecambe, Scarborough, Whitby and Llandudno are at their best 52 weeks a year…so we’ve heard!
